Rocky Shore Ecology
Join Mark Ward from Somerset Wildlife Trust on this guided walk and explore the wonderful world of our rocky shores!
Time & Location
22 Aug 2021, 11:30 – 14:30
Watchet, Watchet, UK
About the Event
Rocky shores are incredibly diverse, hosting a wide range of marine species all adapted in remarkable
ways to surviving the harsh conditions of the inter-tidal zone. Mark will show you some of these
species and explore how they have evolved to survive fluctuating temperatures, light levels and wave
action and how they interact with each to create this special ecosystem. He will also search out some
species that are particularly suited to West Somerset’s shoreline – some well-established natives and
others more recent invaders – from the ubiquitous limpets, winkles and crabs to Australian barnacles
and Pacific Oysters.
Combine this walk with a chance to visit the new East Quay Art Gallery, Watchet and see “SHIFT – Somerset’s Brilliant Coast” – an art exhibition supported by Somerset Wildlife Trust and Contains Art.
